Even in the mid-twenty-first century, during a time when genetic testing usually weeds out any violent hereditary traits before they can take over, murder still happens. The first victim is found lying on a sidewalk in the rain. The second is murdered in her own apartment building. Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas has no problem finding connections between the two crimes. Both victims were beautiful and highly successful women. I enjoyed it, albeit not as much as the first one.
Regardless, I am loving Eve and Roarke and am having fun with this series so far.

I’m sooo hooked on this series. I can’t believe I kept postponing reading it. I would say that my review will come soon but it probably won’t because I’d have to stop reading to write it.

Murder Mystery set in the future with the best alpha male love interest ever? Yes please! I’ll take 43 of them (holy crap this series has a lot of books!). And, while you are at it, I have a list of items that I would like from these books:

    1. AutoChef – cooks my food for me. I need this like I need chocolate.
    2. Flying cars/hovering cars/self-driving cars. One of each, please.
    3. Floating mattress with vibrations and gentle movements.
    4. Bedroom droid that keeps my room clean.

    5. Body dryer in my shower.
    6. A ride on a tourist blimp.
    7. A feline droid because I might actually like a robot cat.
    8. And of course a hover board. And don’t try to tell me that we already have hoverboards, because those things don’t actually hover. It’s a board of lies.

    Get back to work, Science!

So the mystery in this book is figuring out who is killing famous women. I have to say that even though the killer was on my suspect list, he was not in the number one position, so that made me happy. On the other hand, the reason he wasn’t in the number one position was because it seemed a little too convenient if it was him. But still, it was a good mystery and I was thoroughly entertained.

But, as I mentioned in my first review, these books were written a long time ago, so there are a few things that you can’t help but notice. In this one, I had to laugh at the occasionally cheesy lines that Eve would throw out there as a cop. I really had to wonder if the show CSI got some ideas from this book. Here’s what I mean:

    Cop to Eve:“She’s pretty famous.”
Eve to cop: “Now she’s pretty dead.”
    ……

Eve, upon noticing the dead woman’s flashy outfit: “All dressed up and no place to go.”

The thing about reading an older book, though, is that I expect some of this kind of stuff, so I’m a lot more tolerant and can just chuckle over them. But, I definitely heard the “yeeaaah!” in my head.

Along with the mystery component, we have a pretty delicious romance going on between Eve and Roarke. Roarke is a guy who is a bit mysterious, a lot rich, and has tons of hotness. He sees something in Eve that frankly I’m not even seeing. She’s cold to him, rude often, has a mediocre appearance, and got mad at him for buying her a giant diamond. Really, Eve? A giant diamond necklace makes you angry? Well, that makes me angry! This guy’s so rich that he could buy you a damn diamond mine. Just accept the gift and say “thank you”! Or, better yet, send me the diamond necklace. And, the hot man who wants to shower you in gifts, luxury, and sex. Fucking ingrate!

Some people just don’t know how to accept gifts!

All in all, this series is a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to reading the next 40 books. My eyeballs may fall out afterwards, but it will be worth it.
