As a priest, scientist, author and philosopher, Chardin’s writings are kind of like a more scientific, technical C.S. Lewis. I liked this collection as kind of a taste of his ideas, but some of it went over my head. The passages on happiness were a little more concrete. He really seemed ahead of his time in some ways–anticipating globalization. He, of course, saw the future as approching a sort of Utopia–he might be a little disappointed to see what our society is today. But I think he is spot
Inspiring stuff — a little over the poetic top but in a good way. I’m seeing strands of Hegel every here and there in this text — and a very interesting view of the world. Particularly interesting is the Omega Point, perhaps best described as a Jesuit-theological version of the Hegelian holistic Absolute.
